Glen Rose defeats Fountain Lake 36-8

The Glen Rose Beavers played a near perfect game, and got production from their offense, defense, and special teams in a 36-8 win over conference rival Fountain Lake.
The Beavers got on the board first with 4:34 to play in the opening quarter as Austin Kehner found pay dirt from 13-yards out. The PAT was no good, giving Glen Rose the early 6-0 advantage.
Fountain Lake would answer with a touchdown of their own, as quarterback Carson Chandler punched it in from one-yard out. The Cobras would successfully attempt a two-point conversion to take an 8-6 lead.
That would be Fountain Lake's only lead of the night, as it was all Glen Rose from that point forward.
"Our defense stepped up after we gave up one big play early in the game," said Glen Rose head coach Mark Kehner. "We take our hat off to the defense because we feel like they stepped up and played a really good game."
Kehner added a seven-yard touchdown with 8:33 to play in the second quarter, and junior running back Carlos Burton scored his first touchdown of the night with 1:28 to play in the half from 10-yards out. The PAT was successful following both scores, giving the Beavers a 19-8 lead at the half.
"I don't think they think we have a one-two punch at running back," said Kehner. "When you watch, it looks like everyone is jumping on Carlos, and then Austin came in and did a good job as a counter punch. They weren't ready for that, and they had a really good ball game for us."
The Beavers put the ball game out of reach in the third quarter with scores from their defense and special teams.
Dillon LeQuieu picked off Chandler with 5:55 to play in the third quarter, and returned it 55-yards for the pick-six touchdown. The Beavers would score again with 2:06 to play in the quarter when kicker Dakota Harris hit a 29-yard field goal.
"The pick-six was a huge play," said Kehner. "It was a game changer. It was a phenomenal athletic play that you don't game plan, the kid just made a great play. That was probably one for the highlight film right there."
Burton scored the final score of the game with 2:20 to play in the final quarter, as he punched it in from three-yards out.
Burton would finish the night with 20 carries for 187 yards and two touchdowns, while Kehner carried the ball eight times for 67 yards and two touchdowns.
"I'm proud of our kids, but we have to put it in its place," said Kehner. "We have three games left, so we will have to bring them back down to Earth on Monday, and get ready to play a good Centerpoint team next week."
