ArkansasVarsity.com has learned that former Star City football player Zack Towers, who suffered a head injury after a hard hit during a game in 2012, has passed away.
Towers was originally injured in November of 2012 and was in a coma for several months before regaining consciousness. Officials from Easter Seals told Fox16.com that Towers passed away this morning at a Little Rock hospital.
Zack's older brother Ty took to twitter this morning and confirmed the news.
I now have a guardian angel. Watch over me brother. I Love you more than words can ever say.— Ty Towers (@__Towers7) February 19, 2014
Towers had made progress in his recovery, and was able to attend his first football game in September 2013 with hundreds of friends, family, and supporters by his side.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Towers family, friends, and the community of Star City at this time.
