Fordyce vs Dumas -
Friday, September 10th
>
Fordyce gave the Lumberjacks all they could handle in week one, losing in the final minutes of the game
after Warren pulled off a miracle 4th and 23, a 2-point conversion and an opportunistic interception to
seal the game late. The 'Bugs absolutely gashed the Lumberjacks, running for over 300 yards on the
night and three second half scores. Leading the charge was Fordyce's Dexter Walker who carried the
football 28 times for 186 yards and two of those scores. This game last year was played in the muck and
grime of Redbug field and Fordyce played as bad as their field looked, losing to the Bobcats 40-14. Key Stat: Fordyce is 2-6 against Dumas
since 2002, where they played each other as 8-4A conference foes,
including the last three seasons by a combined 116-56.
>
Dumas entered the 2010 season as the enigma of the 8-4A. Fans, coaches and writers knew the Bobcats
had talent, but no one knew how much or how effective it would be this season. Dumas disposed of an
underclassed Mayflower team 28-14 in their first game, but the Eagles do not serve as a good judging
stick for what the Bobcats will face from here on out. Fordyce is a physical team that will test Dumas's
lines and should find success. Everyone knows about the athletically gifted Darion Griswold, but it's
quarterback Trey Winchester and running back Awkille Freeman who will beat you. Key Stat: After
suffering through the 2004-2005 seasons (2-18), the Bobcats found new life in Mark Courtney who is 31-
16-1 in four seasons with four straight play-off appearances.

Star City vs #2 (Class 3A) Rison
- Friday, September 10th
>
Star City's biggest season in recent memory started out with a resounding thud when Lonoke spoiled
the Bulldog's fun in their opener winning 38-29. Ty Towers threw more touchdowns to the Jackrabbits
than he did his own team (Lonoke had two pick 6's) and was intercepted a total of four times on the
afternoon. Star City also fumbled the ball away twice, digging themselves too deep of a hole to climb
out of by game's end-although they cut it down to three points late in the 4th. There were bright spots
though as Towers proved to be a threat on the ground to compliment running backs Hosia Rochell and
Demetri Goins. Key Stat: Star City went 9-3 last season; the last time the Bulldogs won 9 games in a
season (2001), the followed it up with a 10-3 season the following year.
>
A 31-7 beatdown of the former 2A champion is a pretty solid way to start the season. Rison
accomplished that in front of a packed house at Wildcat Stadium last Thursday night. Junction City was
never able to get going offensively as Rison's defense proved stifling after the Dragon's first offensive
possession. Raphael Caldwell paced Rison with 22 carries for 161 yards and one touchdown and also
blocked a punt, returning it 25 yards for another touchdown. It will be interesting to see if Rison's
defense can have similar success against a hungry Star City bunch. A warning to Star City though, if you
throw four interceptions this Friday night-there will be no climbing back into the ballgame against this
Wildcat team. Key Stat: Last year's 35-20 loss to Star City was the first Week 2 loss for Rison since 1989
when they lost to Bearden 20-17.
