Stinson Jr signs with William Carey College

Arkansas All-State high school baseball standout Rod Stinson, Jr from Pine Bluff High School signed a scholarship to play baseball at William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi for the 2019-2020 baseball season.

Stinson, a 5-foot-10, 291 pound catcher and infielder batted nearly .400 for his career while playing for the Pine Bluff Zebras. He was a four-year starter for the Zebras.

“RJ is a good athlete that can play multiple positions,” said Willian Carey head coach Bobby Halford. “I felt like he would be a good fit with his strong family values, coming to a close knit Christian University. I would like to thank Jeff Gross for introducing him to us. RJ has a chance to contribute early due to us graduating some key positions.”

Jeff Gross, the founder of Pro-Day Baseball noted that he was impressed with Stinson.

“RJ is an outstanding hitting catcher that can play multiple positions on the diamond,” said Gross. “He is a player that can hit for power and average, making his money going gap to gap. He is a tough out at the plate with a smooth, simple swing, and a catcher with tremendous speed, which is very rare.”

Stinson held offers from Pensacola State College, Hinds Community College, Three Rivers Community College, Connors State College, Grayson College, and the University of Pine Bluff. He noted he was comfortable with the coaching staff at Williams Carey University.

“I was very comfortable with Coach Halford at William Carey,” said Stinson. “I had the opportunity to work out in front of the coaching staff, and I really enjoyed visiting the campus. I felt like it was a place where I’ll be most comfortable being a student-athlete. Also, knowing I have the opportunity to play early as a freshman.”

Stinson held a 3.93 GPA and scored a 22 on his ACT at Pine Bluff High School.
