Scrimmage Report: Watson Chapel opens it up in second half
When you have not played in a while, your team can come out very sloppy. Such was the case for the Watson Chapel Wildcats on Tuesday night as Coach George Shelton's team scrimmaged against the Forrest City Mustangs.
After trading possessions in the first quarter of the game, Watson Chapel was set to punt, but a bad snap would soar over punter Collin Massanelli's head, and the Mustangs would recover inside of the Watson Chapel 5 yard line. Theodis Goodwin would punch it in three plays later to give the Mustangs a 6-0 lead. The PAT would sail wide right.

The Wildcats would get on the board in the second quarter when Forrest City punter Akeem Bogart would catch a low snap on his knee in the end zone, costing his team two points for the safety. The Wildcats would strike quickly after taking the ensuing kickoff, as Aaron Lagrone would sprint 49 yards to the Mustang two yard line. Running back Lee McCoy would scamper in from two yards out on the next play.
Massanelli would add the PAT, to give the Wildcats a 9-6 lead at halftime.
The Wildcats looked like an entirely different team in the second half. Quarterback Kyle Coleman would score from 12 yards out on a 4th and 12 early in the third quarter to give the Cats a 16-6 lead after the Massanelli PAT.
Lagrone would strike from 24 yards out on the next possession to give the Wildcats a 24-6 lead.
Both teams would score one more touchdown a piece, to bring the final score to 30-14 in favor of the Wildcats.
Aaron Lagrone would lead the Wildcats on the ground with 14 carries for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Kyle Coleman was 6-of-18 passing for 63 yards and an interception. He also ran the ball three times for 32 yards and a touchdown.
Watson Chapel head coach George Shelton was pleased with the performance of his team in the second half.
"Our kids are beginning to understand our schemes and what play follows what play," said Shelton. "They're beginning to understand what we do."
Shelton was also pleased with the performance of Lagrone and Coleman.
"He sometimes hesitates and doesn't trust his natural ability," he said. "We're trying to get him to understand that he's a very gifted runner with great speed and great elusiveness. [Coleman] is doing some things mechanically that he's going to have to improve upon, [But] he's going to get better every Friday night, hopefully."
Arkansas Razorback Commit and Forrest City athlete Davyon McKinney was limited in action on the night, but showed tremendous speed and athleticism while sprinting across the field to pick off a Kyle Coleman pass. He played the entire game on both sides of the football.
