>
The War Eagles let their cry be heard last season in just their second season of
football, finishing 3rd in the 7A-West before bowing out in the second round of
the playoffs to North Little Rock. QB Reed Brown returns for his third season as a
starter and the defense looks to be the strong point of the team, led by safety and
Navy commit Jimmy Britton and 6'3'', 285 pound DT Reid Schatzman. Key Stat: Heritage returns five three year starters; Brown, Britton, Schatzman, RB Zac Stewart, and LG Jacob Huckaby..
>
The Cougars look to return to the success they experienced in 2008, led by two
seniors, WR Aubrey Garner (6'4'', 200 pounds) and RB DeKeathan Williams (6'2,
200 pounds). West Helena struggled with injuries last season, but challenged
Pulaski Academy in the first round of the playoffs last season before succumbing
50-39 to the Bruins. Key Stat: West Helena won four games in a row at the end of the regular season
last year to place themselves in the playoffs for the third consecutive year.
Brandon Kirkpatrick's Pick: Heritage by 14 | Kyle O'Neal's Pick: West Helena by 2 | Luke Matheson's Pick: Heritage by 8
Rison vs Junction City - Thursday, September 2nd
>
The Wildcats may return
their best group of players since the 2004 Championship team. Led by
senior All-State RB Raphael Caldwell, the Wildcats will rely on the running game to set
the pace. The Wildcats are also full talent in their junior class. WR/DB Marquis Walker, TE/LB Quanterio Heath,
RB/LB Jerry Marshall, and RB/LB A.J. Smith are all expected to be major contributors this season. J.R.
England returns this year from a season ending injury last fall.   Key Stat: Rison went 104-24 last decade, winning two State Championships.
>
The Dragons are coming off
back-to-back State Championships in Class 2A, and will not be shabby at all this season despite losing
some key talent. RB/DB Rodney Larry is one of the states best
players, and is a threat to score on any play. RB/DB
Romunskee Flowers, RB/LB Bronte' Elliott, WR/DB Ja'Ryan Brown, and LB Brandon Nathan are key players
to watch for this season.  Key Stat: The Dragons won 3 State Championships
in the past decade, and has sent several players to the next level.
Kyle
O'Neal's Pick:  Rison by 1 | Luke Matheson's Pick: Rison by 2
