Derek Johnson Releases Statement Regarding Transfer

ArkansasVarsity.com reported earlier in the day that former Hoxie Four-Star rated, and Texas red-shirt freshman Defensive Tackle Derek Johnson has received a release from the Longhorns.
Johnson has decided to transfer to a school closer to home, and our sources are indicating that school will be Arkansas State University.

Johnson issued the following statement through the University of Texas earlier today.
"This was a difficult decision but one I felt like I had to make for me and my family. I've really enjoyed my time at UT and am grateful to Coach (Mack) Brown and the staff for everything they've done for me. But I really think it's best for me to be closer to home and around my family so I'm transferring to do that."
Johnson was recruited pretty heavily by not only the Longhorns, but also Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Mississippi State, and several others during his high school career.
Keep checking back with ArkansasVarsity.com for any new information we get on Derek's situation.
