Bryant runs past Rogers to advance in the Class 7A Playoffs

James Martin had a huge night, leading the Bryant Hornets to a 42-7 victory over Rogers in the second round of the playoffs Friday night.

Martin finished the night with 17 carries for 88 yards and 5 touchdowns. Quarterback Jordan Walker went 11-of-17 passing for 106 yards in addition to 7 carries for 114 yards to help Martin pace the Hornets.

The Hornets got things started with a 3-yard touchdown run by Martin with 9:11 remaining in the first quarter. Stephen Fuller added the PAT to give Bryant the early 7-0 lead.

Martin found pay dirt once more in the opening quarter on a 4-yard run with 4:16 remaining in the quarter. Fuller’s PAT extended the lead to 14-0.

He went on to add three more scores, beginning with a 1-yard run with 3:12 remaining in the first half, then again with a 1-yard run with 1 second remaining in the first half. Fuller added two more PAT’s to give the Hornets the 28-0 lead going into halftime.

Martin found pay dirt one more time on a 16-yard run with 5:10 remaining in the third quarter. Fuller’s PAT gave the Hornets the mercy rule before they extended the lead with 1:00 remaining in the third quarter on a 36-yard pass from David Paglianite to Shawn Rycraw. Fuller’s PAT gave the Hornets the 42-0 lead.

Rogers scored their lone touchdown with 6:48 remaining in the game on a 19-yard pass from Dane Williams to Tye Cunningham.

The Hornets put up 453 yards of total offense, including 302 yards on the ground and 151 yards through the air. Defensively, the Hornets held Rogers to 203 yards of total offense.

The victory sets up a rematch with Conway next week, with the winner advancing to the Class 7A state championship game.
