With Bobby Petrino being fired from the University of Arkansas, many people across the Natural state have their opinions on the matter, to include high school football coaches.
One such coach is North Little Rock head coach Brad Bolding, who gave his thoughts to ArkansasVarsity.com Wednesday afternoon.
"I think the decision [to fire Petrino] was the right decision," said Bolding. "I grew up in the business of coaching, and I know how it operates. It was a tough decision, but the right one. I'm proud of [Arkansas athletic director] Jeff Long for standing up and making a statement."
Bolding also stated that it is time for some good things to happen in the world of football.
"Football has not been very good over the past year," said Bolding. "Look at what happened at Penn State, New Orleans, and now even Arkansas. That is not good for our kids to see. That is not what football is all about. Football is about teaching young men life lessons, and not the stuff that has been coming out in football over the past year or so."
"It's time for some good things to happen in football," Bolding added. "We as coaches are supposed to touch young mens lives, and teach them good things. This is nothing against Petrino, but he did not set a good example for his kids."
While the Razorbacks are searching for a coach, Bolding said he would like to see one coach receive consideration if Jeff Long decides he wants to go with an interim coach.
"I'd love to see Tim Horton get a shot," said Bolding. "He has been doing a great job for Arkansas, and he is an outstanding recruiter. He has been recruiting [Alabama 4-star commit] Altee Tenpenny, and he is doing an outstanding job there as well."
Speaking of Tenpenny, Bolding said that he and Tenpenny will visit the University of Arkansas this Friday, and that the firing of Petrino will play no part in Tenpenny's ultimate decision.
"I'm going to take Altee up there for the scrimmage this Friday," said Bolding. "He is a smart kid and well grounded, and if he ultimately decides to go to Arkansas, it will not be because of Petrino. It will be bigger that that."
"Same for Alabama," Bolding added. "He's not committed to Alabama because of Nick Saban, he is committed because of what the school has to offer. If he is to de-commit from them and commit to Arkansas, it will be because of what the university as a whole has to offer."
Tenpenny noted in an interview earlier in the month that he owed Arkansas at least one more look due to it being an in-state school. He also indicated that he would visit Oklahoma State at least one more time as well.
ArkansasVarsity.com has placed phone calls to several in-state coaches in attempts to gain their thoughts on Petrino's firing. We will run any updates as we receive them.
