Arkansas State Coach Steve Roberts Resigns

JONESBORO ARK-After nine seasons as the head coach of the Arkansas State Red Wolves, Steve Roberts has turned in his resignation to athletic director, Dr. Dean Lee.
Roberts, who finished the past two seasons with consecutive 4-8 records, resignation will be effective at 5:00 PM Tuesday evening according to Dr. Lee. Roberts was named head coach of at ASU on December 21, 2001.

"We are thankful to Coach Roberts for his nine years of service to Arkansas State University and its athletic department." said Dr. Lee. "He led our football program to a number of accomplishments, and he has been a great ambassador for our program and University."
In 2005, Roberts was named the Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year, and ended his tenure with Arkansas State with the fifth mos victories in school history with 45. He led ASU to the New Orleans Bowl in 2005, the programs first bowl appearance as an NCAA FBS member.
Notable non-conference victories during Roberts tenure include victories over teams such as Tulsa, Army, SMU, Memphis, and Texas A&M.
"I am certainly proud of a lot of positive things that have occurred over the last nine years." said Roberts. "From a competitive and academic standpoint to the retention of kids and the development of relationships, we made tremendous strides in a lot of areas I'm very proud of.
Arkansas State will begin an immediate national search for its football head coach position.
