Starting Lineup Emerging
With less than 10 days to go before the season opener against The Citadel, things are gradually starting to take shape for the Texas A&M football team. Most of the offensive starters appear to be set, with the likely defensive starters - especially in the secondary - starting to stand out.
Coach Dennis Franchione has already indicated that quarterback Stephen McGee will work with a backfield consisting of Courtney Lewis, Jorvorskie Lane, incoming freshman Mike Goodson and Brandon Leone, with mainstay Chris Alexander remaining as the fullback.
To the surprise of no one, veterans Chad Schroeder, L'Tydrick Riley and Earvin Taylor have returned to the top of the depth chart at wide receiver, with Kerry Franks, Howard Morrow and Pierre Brown likely consisting of the second team. True freshman E.J. Shankle, who had been widely expected to redshirt, has turned heads during fall practice and may see playing time this year along with true freshman Cody Beyer.
Tight end Martellus Bennett will be on the field for virtually every snap, regardless of formation, and Joey Thomas - whose good hands have been the subject of positive reviews in both spring and fall practices - may be used in a similar fashion.
